Fox is scraping the bottom of the bedpan with this summer sitcom, which stars Christine Ebersole as the title character, a nurse who rides herd over a raucous hospital ward. Kevin Conroy, Bryan Brightcloud and Lois Foraker costar, to their discredit.
This ugly insultfest is bawdy (the pilot features a Chippendale-like beefcake dancer), nasty (an overweight pre-op patient is addressed as Shamu) and tasteless (Foraker, the hospital dietitian, says, "Ah, the smell of coffee brewing and old men dying. Doesn't that just say breakfast?"). And did I mention gross? There's an extended joke about a man having sex with a potato. (Or is that potatoe?)
On Saturday nights NBC has a hospital-ward sitcom, Nurses, that isn't very funny. Rachel Gunn is the idiot cousin of that show.
