After over a decade of deliberation, the Vatican awarded Monaco's Princess Caroline, 35, an annulment of her first marriage, to French playboy Philippe Junot, 52, presumably because she was then psychologically immature. Caroline, a practicing Catholic, requested the annulment in 1981, two years before she married—in a civil ceremony—her late husband, Stefano Casiraghi. The annulment leaves Caroline, who has been dating French actor Vincent Lindon, 32, free to marry again within the church.... Actress Linda Lavin, 54, was granted a divorce from her second husband, actor Clifford "hip" Niven, 47, on the grounds of adultery and cruelty. Lavin, who married Niven in 1982, was ordered by a New York State Supreme Court judge to pay $675,000 to her ex, considerably less than the nearly $6 million he had sought in alimony, property and support for his two children from a previous marriage. Lavin's position: "Any decent person would have said, Thanks, I screwed up' and walked away."
Entertainer Ben Vereen, 45, who suffered head, leg and internal injuries after being hit by a car on June 9 in Malibu, is out of the intensive-care unit and listed in fair condition at the UCLA Medical Center.
Time marches on: Mick Jagger, 48, is a grandfather. On July 2, Jagger's daughter Jade, 20, gave birth to a baby daughter, as yet unnamed, at the cottage she shares in Dorset, England, with the baby's father, artist Piers Jackson, 22.... TV stars Mark Harmon and wife Pam Dawber, both 40, had their second child and son, Ty Christian, on June 25 in Los Angeles. Little Ty was a not so little 9 lbs. 1 oz.
Sen. Edward Kennedy, 60, wed lawyer Victoria Anne Reggie, 38, in a civil ceremony on July 3 at his home in McLean, Va. Among the 30 family members attending were two of Kennedy's three adult children (son Patrick missed the wedding because his flight from Providence, K.L, was canceled) and Reggie's two young children from her first marriage. The only hitch in the hitching: Reportedly, the not-quite-newlyweds, mistakenly thinking the judge was through, jumped the gun on the kissing part and had to do it again when it was legal.... Actress Finola Hughes, 32, who cheeked out of daytime's General Hospital and into prime time's Jack 's Place, married fellow Brit Russell Voting, 33, a photographer-music video director, on July 4 in a private Victorian ceremony in London.
Singer-actor Allan Jones, 84, whose wavy hair and clear tenor voice earned him roles in 25 movies, including the romantic lead in Showboat (1936), died June 27 in New York City of lung cancer. When his film career faded, Jones, the father of '60s crooner Jack Jones, continued as a concert performer, singing as recently as March in Australia and New Zealand.
