For the most part, this TV movie jerks its tears in respectable fashion. A high school student (Morgan Weisser), obsessed with his video camera, is chronicling his family as a school project. Sounds light enough. But in flashbacks we see his mom's descent into madness. It won't spoil a surprise to tell you Mom (Blair Brown) also dies.

It sounds weird. But the story moves, thanks to a fine cast (Weisser, Brown, the underrated Craig T. Nelson as her husband and Samantha Mathis as their son's girlfriend) and director Peter Horton, thirty-something's Gary. We could nitpick a few points (a senseless ending, for instance), but this one will keep your interest.
