The film profited from the sexy picture of Roberts in its ads, but she's certainly winning. Richard Gere, a tycoon who remakes her Pygmalion-style, is amiable. Hector Elizondo, as a hotel manager, and Laura San Giacomo, as another hooker, help to make the fairy-tale plot fun. Don't expect biting wit. The film, directed by ex-sitcom meister Garry Marshall, is as sterilized as mass-market TV comedy. (Touchstone)
