The '90s seem to have brought a new moral climate.
In the season premiere for Peter Falk's rumpled detective, the villains are two selfish frat brats, Gary Hershberger and Stephen Caffrey. It's more than likely that not long ago their type would have been portrayed as future captains of industry deserving of our admiration or at least our envy.
Now they are exposed as vicious monsters scheming to kill the professor (James Sutorious) who wants them expelled.
It's a stale outing for Falk, who has to act denser than usual, because these two smug slugs don't make for worthy adversaries. Now, if he had been after the rich kids' fathers, Robert Culp and Alan Fudge, we might have had a strong match.
