This British production is regarded as a "lost" Bette Davis movie, because the rights to it have been legally entangled virtually since it was made in 1951.
Davis plays a mystery writer who kills her shady estranged husband and is then blackmailed by a fugitive from the law into allowing him to pose as her mate. This was the first film Davis made after All About Eve, and once again she has as a co-star Gary Merrill, whom she had married in the interim.
Davis isn't at her most spirited in this thick thriller, but even a bland Bette is a wonder to watch.
