Steve Warmer

Wariner's isn't the most sumptuous voice among today's country singers. And he and producer Brown Bannister make little use of guests Nanci Griffith and Maura O'Connell. They do profit from the Irish band the Chieftains on "I Saw Three Ships" and "Past Three O'Clock," and Wariner (writing with Lisa Silver) adds a pleasant tune to the season, "On Christmas Morning." The album's highlight is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." with Wariner singing thoughtfully, backed by only Chet Atkins's elegant, reverent guitar. (MCA)
