TV commercials try to be in season. So during the first few days of January, with New Year's resolutions still fresh, viewers were subjected to a nearly unbroken string of weight-loss ads. But wait. What if advertisers have gotten so sophisticated that they're beaming different, individually tailored spots into everyone's house? What if I'm watching liquid-diet ads, for instance, while you're feasting on commercials for Swiss Miss and Mallomars?... Sorry, a bit of paranoia sneaked in there. Of course, we all receive the same programming. You are getting commercials for L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics seven times an hour, aren't you?
