ABC (Sun., Jan. 27)

A-

The network gives this nifty new knock-about sitcom a big debut, launching it immediately after the Super Bowl.

Randy (National Lampoon's Vacation) Quaid is an elementary school principal and single parent to three sons. But his biggest administrative headache comes from dealing with his wobbly gyroscope of a father (Jonathan Winters).

The part gives Winters plenty of latitude for ad-libs, and his trademark flood-of-consciousness riffing still tickles. Quaid is a terrific foil—warm, engaging and facile.

Later in the week. Davis Rules airs in its regular slot, Tuesdays at 8:30 P.M. ET.
