The Chase is based on a 1988 incident in Denver when a TV station's news helicopter acted as a spotter for police pursuing a bank robber's car. Is it just me, or does this sound like the thinnest premise for a true-life TV movie in a long time?

Putting a few shreds of meat on this bare-bones plot is Casey (Breaking In) Siemaszko in a hot-wired but frantic performance as the one-man crime wave. Episodically we also check in on Barry Corbin, Ben Johnson, Georgia Emelin, Ricki Lake, Robert Beltran and Megan Follows, the plain folk who get in Siemaszko's way.

The movie's decent action scenes are muffled in a lot of lazy melodrama. This event might have made an electrifying story on the Denver evening news, but it's not ready for prime time.
