C + C Music Factory
Rock and rollers look at dance music as stuff for wimps in expensive clothes. Dance fans view unadulterated rock as the stuff migraines are made of. Seldom do the genres meet, but C + C Music Factory melds the two into a pleasing package.
Production whiz kids Robert Clivillés and David Cole, whose best-known work until now has been remixes for Natalie Cole, Grace Jones and Janet Jackson
, are the Music Factory's C + C. They stay in the background, using guitarist Paul Pesco, singers Martha (ex-Weather Girl) Wash and Zelma Davis and rapper Freedom Williams to do their down-and-dirty work.
The title track deserves its Top 10 status, along with hit-to-be "Things That Make You Go Hmmm..." blending rap. rock and dance riffs. "Here We Go, Let's Rock & Roll" is tough funk, like a bastard child of Eddie Van Halen and the Staple Singers. Throughout, synthesizer bullets shoot at your feet until you dance. (Columbia)
