Simultaneous teenage virgin pregnancies in Pennsylvania and in Massachusetts are troubling the Catholic Church. If a 70-year-old prophecy is right, one girl is carrying a divine child, the other a demon.

Both young actresses in this film, Sydney (Pale Rider) Penny and Kris-ten (The Legend of Grizzly Adams) Datillo, do good jobs, as does Anthony (Under Cover) Denison as the priest sent by the Vatican to investigate. Rounding out the cast are Sela Ward, Brad Davis and Paxton Whitehead.

Though there is some chilling Omen/Exorcist-style suspense early on, the film goes downhill at a hell-on-wheels pace. One problem is inattention to detail: How many mill towns in western Pennsylvania have a thriving crab industry?
