In the season opener for the documentary series P.O.V., filmmaker Peter Adair interviews 11 people who have tested HIV positive—a condition that is a precursor to AIDS.

The group includes gay men, intravenous drug users of both sexes and others who acquired the virus from blood transfusions or heterosexual sex.

With cathartic candor, they discuss their experiences; one woman, tears rolling down her face, recalls being told that her newborn son is infected.

Adair, who himself is HIV positive, has effectively located the familiar human faces within the scourge.
