Boyz N the Hood can only be the pretext for violence connected with the showing of the movie (see story, page 24), not a cause. Few films so pointedly denounce destructive behavior. In any case, if onscreen brutality had such an immediate effect on audiences. there'd be ambulances backed up to the exits for every showing of Terminator 2, director James Cameron's prating about the film's antiviolence message notwithstanding.
