Who in Burbank did these bozos bribe to get this cushy show? It purports to find entertainment in a popular Los Angeles radio team, Mark Thompson and Brian Phelps, acting out fantasies and doing the kind of wacky things that morning deejays dream up as promotions.
But pole-sitting doesn't make for good TV, so in this episode the can't sing—can't dance duo gets to perform with the Temptations. Mostly the guys do daredevil stunts such as shark-diving and bungee jumping. But first they go shopping to outfit themselves. Why not? NBC is picking up the tab.
Unlike many radio personalities, these gagmasters have an energy and charm that translates rather well to the tube. But right out of the gate, this baby is flirting with escapade overdose. The concept might work as an occasional special, but a weekly series? As Charles Osgood says, "See you on the radio."
After another preview on Thursday, the series moves to its regular slot on Sundays at 7 P.M. ET.
