Failing to live up to its progenitor's standards either aesthetically or financially (it has grossed "only" $112 million so far, to the original's $220 million), this sequel is your basic pale imitation. The cast is back—Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver—and Rick Moranis's beefed-up part provides a few laughs. But what was fresh the first time around seems mechanical in this routine comedy, in effect sliming just about everybody concerned. (RCA/Columbia)
