>A WORLD OF SHOES

For those wanting to pass their obsessions on to the next generation, here's a primer on footwear around the globe. Delia Rowland wrote the text—"My father makes babouches (bah-BOOSH) and sells them in the marketplace. He always has many customers. Everyone in Morocco wears these pointy slippers." The artwork, vivid in its blues and greens, is by Frank Riccio and Sumo. Rowland & Co. missed a bet by ignoring people in tropical areas who go barefoot, but the humanist message gets across—almost everybody covers their feet with something and the differences among the somethings hardly matter. (Calico, $8.95)
