There's a show being shopped around to stations for next year that encapsulates some of the most annoying trends in television. It's called Kids Still Say the Darndest Things with Marc Summers. First, you have the medium's boundless appetite for recycling old ideas—in this case, Art Linkletter's chats with children on his old House Party. Secondly, there's the host, Marc Summers, one of these synthetic, brittle third-generation game show hosts who make you long for the warmth of a John Davidson. Finally, Summers belongs to the new breed of TV personality so full of themselves that they think their name should be part of the title. Maybe it was his epochal work as the host of Couch Potatoes that convinced Summers he deserved this honor.
