If your household is anything like mine, at certain times of the day the air is rent every eight minutes by a desperate cry: "Daddy. Come in here. I want that. I want THAT!!!"

Our children are exposed to commercials at an alarming rate. It's estimated that a child is hit with up to 40,000 per annum.

This documentary, subtitled A Kids' Survival Guide to TV Advertising, is designed to help youngsters resist the hard sell. In simple terms, it shows how advertisements commonly exaggerate and glamorize their products in order to mislead their young targets.

By clearly teaching children the difference between TV illusion and romper-room reality, this kiddie consumer special provides a laudable service. But to break Madison Avenue's hypnotic hold on our children, it would have to be shown on all stations every hour on the hour and...you'll have to excuse me; I'm getting another urgent summons from the living room.
