Various artists

There are no billowing choral arrangements of your yuletide faves here, just 14 Rhode Island musicians playing all the greats on acoustic instruments, ranging from the guitar to the hurdy-gurdy. Especially nice are "Wassail Song from Leeds," with Mark Davis on guitar and Marilynn Mair plucking the mandolin, and a medley of "The First Noel/Deck the Halls," which is delicately played by Steve Snyder on guitar and piano, Mark Roberts on the tin whistle and Everett Brown on accordions. If Christmas shopping has chased away the true meaning of the holidays, nestle near the tree and let these songs warm your soul. (North Star Records, Providence, R.I.; 800-346-2706)
