The most abysmal commercial in history returns Jan. 28. We speak of Bud Bowl II. Ayyii!! Viewers of last year's Super Bowl are unlikely ever to forget the launch of this atrocious ad campaign, in which a bunch of beer bottles capped with tiny helmets clinked around in a pathetic simulation of a football game. It would have been just as effective to film a case of empties rattling around on the bed of a moving truck. Yet Anheuser-Busch, seemingly intent on making this suds sham into an annual event, is already hyping the second coming. We may remember 1989 as the year in which we began getting TV commercials that were coming attractions for other, more elaborate, TV commercials. Another giant step for civilization.
