The diabolical plot obviously goes something like this: PBS puts on a hopelessly dreary series of interviews with such authors as Margaret Atwood and Robertson Davies, thus discouraging the last few remaining readers in TV land from ever picking up a book again. More former literary types watch Masterpiece Theatre and feel so guilty that they contribute in Pledge Weeks. Is there any hope for the printed page?
