Martin Landau executes another fine turn playing Simon Wiesenthal, who is searching for survivors of a certain concentration camp. A Polish doctor (Treat Williams) tells him the story of his cruel separation from his fiancée (Alice Krige) during the war, a saga that grows increasingly plodding and portentous. There is also the danger that the setting and tone of Max and Helen will trigger in some viewers a flare-up of post-War and Remembrance stress syndrome.
