This is the week NBC unveils its heavily promoted new sitcom Grand (see below). To make way, Dear John gets reshuffled to Wednesday night. Watch how fast that Judd Hirsch show plummets from the Nielsen Top 10 now that it has lost its protected status on the network's Thursday night Murderers Row. But Dear John isn't taking this turn of events lying down. This week Susan (Nightingales) Walters joins the cast as a sultry Southern divorcee, bringing an infusion of fresh blood and hormones to the One-Two-One singles' support group. Her addition does help pick up the show's pace, but it won't stanch the inevitable ratings slide. The name of the game in prime time, as it is in real estate and theater tickets, is location, location, location. Of course, when you're absolutely, irretrievably bad, as was Jackie Mason's Chicken Soup, not even a juggernaut lead-in like Roseanne can save you.
