When real estate agent Lisa Hartman loses the ability to conceive during routine surgery gone bad, she socks the doctor, Joe (Jake and the Fatman) Penny, with a $7 million malpractice suit and wins. But all is not as it seems, and a tangled web of deceit begins to draw tighter in the second hour of this Jagged Edge-wanna-be.

A solid but stolid suspenser, The Operation features credible performances all around, especially by Kathleen Quinlan as Penny's wife and clinic partner. But the poky, incremental unfolding of the plot acts like general anesthesia.
