In an august adaptation of Terence Rattigan's play for Great Performances, Ian Richardson is a barrister defending a young naval cadet accused of thievery. Spirited performances by Richardson, Christopher Haley as the boy, Emma Thompson as his grown sister and Gordon Jackson as his testy father inject vitality over the long course of this ultra-Anglo, drawing room—courtroom melodrama.
