A profile of the celebrated British ballerina (born Peggy Hookham in Surrey) examines her life in an absorbing and comprehensive manner. Narrated by Dame Margot herself, the Great Performances special contains wonderful film and still photos and recollections from acquaintances and colleagues, including Sir Frederick Ashton and Rudolf Nureyev. Its best facet is performance footage, from Giselle in 1937 to her 1979 swan dance, Salut d'Amour, choreographed by Ashton. You don't have to be a ballet aficionado to appreciate that this is a remarkable talent and a remarkable lady.
