Sex symbol alert! Julia Roberts, with her long, boot-sheathed legs dominating the ads for Pretty Woman, is getting the sort of hot-stuff buildup that hasn't been seen since Kelly Le Brock appeared, skirt aloft, in The Woman in Red (or maybe even since Roberts's Pretty Woman co-star, Richard Gere, appeared in American Gigolo). There's a retro feel to this kind of thing, redolent of the days when Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, Joi Lansing and a dozen other buxom blonds were flouncing around trying to become the new Marilyn Monroe. But Roberts has established her credibility as an actress, and anyway, surely nobody in Hollywood would try to exploit a woman's appearance in these enlightened times. Would they?
