>HOT DOGGEREL: DEAD POETS SOCIETY There are in effect two films here. In one, Robin Williams does his stand-up shtick as a prep-school teacher who encourages his students to think independently. The other is an unlikely tale of a preppie. Robert Sean Leonard, who's driven to despair by his passion to be an actor. Williams and Leonard are fine; the script, despite its Oscar, is pretentious bunk. (Touchstone)

OH, BROTHER: STAYING TOGETHER Everything Coupe de Ville isn't, this likable film casts Tim Quill, Dermot Mulroney and Sean Astin as brothers trying to muddle through after Dad sells the family business. (HBO)
