B-

Some 15 years after she was assumed to have died in a plane crash, a young woman (Stephanie Zimbalist) reappears shortly before a large inheritance is to be disbursed. Her wealthy father (George Grizzard) has since taken a second wife (Pamela Reed), who is understandably skeptical about the identity of her "new" stepdaughter.

Zimbalist's wily performance keeps you guessing, Grizzard is excellent, Patricia Neal has a delicious cameo, and there's a nicely conceived relationship between the two children from the second marriage (Shawn Phelan and Jenny Jacobs). But the mystery, set in the 1960s, is like an old grandfather clock: opulent and finely crafted, but ticking along rather too deliberately for this digital age.
