Poor Ten Garr. Not since Katharine Ross used Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Graduate as a springboard into anonymity has such a talented, attractive actress had such an unaccountably hard time parlaying major opportunities into big-time stardom. Garr has had big impact chances in such films as Young Frankenstein and Tootsie, but her starring roles have been along the lines of the intriguing but obscure Full Moon in Blue Water or the current, lame Short Time. And Garr isn't alone as an underachiever. Think of Karen Allen, Lesley-Anne Down, SCTV's Joe Flaherty, Lou Gossett Jr., Kris Kristofferson, Elizabeth McGovern, Aidan Quinn, Chris Sarandon, Sam Shepard. Then there's all-timer Burt Reynolds, post-Deliverance, though he's working on an asterisk after Breaking In.
