As nutsy as its title, this fable focuses on a dad whom animals hate. ("Dogs bit Father. Cats bit Father. Horses kicked Father.") So off he goes, to Africa, seeking a more exotic pal, along with Towser, the family pooch. The result is giddy, lively fun. (Little, Brown, $14.95—ages 4-8)
