Lothaire Bluteau has an advantage in Jesus of Montreal: Since he's playing merely a modern version of Christ, he doesn't have to worry about how a historical savior is supposed to look. The actors who have tried, with varying degrees of success, the intimidating role of the more traditional Christ include Jeffrey Hunter (King of Kings), Max von Sydow (The Greatest Story Ever Told), Ted Neeley (Jesus Christ Superstar), Brian Deacon (Jesus), Willem Dafoe (The Last Temptation of Christ). Graham Chapman in Monty Python's Life of Brian doesn't count.
