>In one of the most lavish and longest opera productions ever mounted for the tube, PBS presents Wagner's epic Ring of the Nibelung in its entirety, Das Rheingold through Götterdämmerung. That's 17 hours of Teutonic heroism and mythology, of dwarves and helmeted Valkyries, spread over four successive nights beginning Monday (June 18, 8 P.M. ET). Soloists in this performance at New York City's Metropolitan Opera include Jessye Norman, Hildegard Behrens, Gary Lakes, Siegfried Jerusalem and James Morris. It's sung in German with subtitles. But you don't really have to read them, since most of the libretto is made up of lines like, "Helmwige! Bring your horse over here."
