A photographer and resident handyman (C. Thomas Howell in a Maynard G. Krebs goatee) in a downtown L.A. building full of artists' lofts begins to suspect there is something more than sinister about his new neighbor (Jeff Fahey). With the help of the sculptor down the hall (Rae Dawn Chong, Howell's real-life wife), our hero begins to snoop. Alert cineasts will recognize the wholesale borrowings from Hitchcock's Rear Window.

Chong is a treat, but Howell and Courteney Cox Arquette, as his model girlfriend, are so much ballast in this drama, which is blandly written and too drawn out to be suspenseful. It does get extra points for its penetrating score by Jan (Miami Vice) Hammer.
