Barbara Walters anchors a not-so-newsy special about genetics and its impact on obstetrics—from artificial insemination to prenatal detection of genetic diseases. The program also tackles the ethical implications of medical advances like those that enable parents to preselect gender and other attributes of their baby.

There is a strong assemblage of clips of families who have wrestled with these issues, but the roundtable discussion of experts that follows each segment is just hot air, and the unfocused content makes the show seem more cobbled together than a bad high school term paper.
