Picks and Pans Review: Dea
In the war on drugs, the New York Drug Enforcement Administration operatives in this fictional law-enforcement series are the shock troops. The manner in which their case histories are told is more unsteady than the hand-held camerawork that gives the hour its "reality" look.
The depiction of investigative techniques is sometimes convincing, sometimes incredible. The grace notes from the agents' personal lives seem gratuitous. Then, too, the young narco-rangers never impress you as being anything but actors. The program arrives at its destination, Gritty City TV, but no one is going to confuse it with a hidden camera documentary.
