Picks and Pans Review: Bangkok Hilton
Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise's current flame, stars in this six-hour Australian miniseries as an asthmatic innocent who is thrown into a notorious Thai prison on drug charges. Denholm Elliott is her lawyer, a rueful man who has a significant connection to her of which she is unaware.
Slow but eventually very involving, the mini, which concludes the following night, is part romance, part adventure, part Midnight Express Goes Down Under. Excellent writing and acting accord it greater psychological depth than is customary for TV movies.
