>TOP PICK: THE DEAD POOL Fans of Clint Eastwood in his role as "Dirty Harry" Callahan, the San Francisco detective who doesn't exactly play by the book, are in for a treat with this fifth chapter in the series. Eastwood, now 58, moves a little more slowly than he did in 1971, when he first wore Harry's badge, but he can still snap out a wisecrack and KO the creeps with style. The plot? When did that ever matter in a Harry picture? For action entertainment, Eastwood will make your day. (Warner)

NEXT BEST: DIEHARD Bruce Willis may never be a match for Eastwood in the shoot-'em-up sweeps, but he does a creditable job here as a cop trying to free a group of hostages, including his estranged wife, captured by terrorists in an L.A. high rise. The movie was a box office smash, thanks to exciting special effects (a little less exciting reduced to video size). But Willis' blend of humor and heroics is a winning combination. (CBS/Fox)

MUST TO AVOID: YOUNG GUNS Emilio Estevez as Billy the Kid and Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen and Lou Diamond Phillips as his gang wimp out in this woebegone Western that beguiled a few teenyboppers last summer. Other age groups should give this turkey a wide berth. (Vestron)
