Darling Mary Page Keller is such a pleasure to watch on Duet. So I thought it was a shame that here, in her big network-TV movie, she had to die. But Keller is the lucky one. Unlike the rest of the talented cast, she doesn't have to spend two hours stuck in this unpleasant story about one unpleasant man. Keller plays a pregnant wife who dies in childbirth, leaving her husband, Gary (Midnight Caller) Cole, to care for the surviving baby. He's not up to the task; he's downright rude about it. He picks up the squalling infant and yells at her: "Yeah, well I don't like you either!" So Cole decides to give his baby up for adoption. But he's afraid of telling his stern mother-in-law, Colleen Dewhurst. And he must suffer lectures from his friend and co-worker, Joanna (Growing Pains) Kerns. "Just because you can't get a good night's sleep is no reason to give up your child," Kerns says, sensibly. "You're not a quitter!" But after an hour of these tears, screams and violin cues, a quitter is just what you may want to be. -
