Picks and Pans Review: Magic Moments
Don't worry. Be sappy. This Harlequin Romance Movie, based on the novel This Magic Moment by Nora Roberts, is a formula love story about people with breathy-sounding names who never think about money and "do it" in glamorous locations. Jenny (Local Hero) Seagrove plays a beautiful, unmarried TV producer named Me-lanie James, who tools around London in a white sports car listening to Mozart while talking on her portaphone. Besides substance, something's missing in her life, and that's love. Enter Troy Gardner, played by John (Missing) Shea, a militantly seductive, world-famous magician who harbors a dark secret in his tricky past. When Melanie visits him at the country estate he's renting, hoping to sign him for a TV special, a hurricane hurriedly happens, forcing her to spend the night. When she accompanies him to Madrid, a gold heartshaped locket with her name on it mysteriously appears in the bottle of champagne she orders at lunch. Has Melanie found true love or is she being besieged by Troy through hypnosis? The only magic moment in this sentimental slush is when it's over.
