A salute to the beginnings of rock and roll, hosted by Dick Clark, may sound like another generic music special. Well, goodness, gracious, great balls of fire! In 1985 Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison held a reunion at Sun Records Studios in Memphis, Tenn., where they had all been discovered. Besides performing alone and together, they each talk lucidly about their careers (did you know Roy Orbison was a backup singer for Pat Boone?), the birth of rock and roll and their remembrances of their pal Elvis Presley. Other guests who drop by to sing are June Carter Cash, John Fogerty, the Judds, Ace Cannon, Marty Stewart and, in his last taped performance, Rick Nelson. It's a rousing evening—a bop bop a loom op a lop bop boom!
