Picks and Pans Review: American Gladiators

It's as if someone said, "Hey, how's this for a concept? Take the spokesmodels from Star Search, the Chippendale's dancers, and put them through athletic paces like we used to do on Battle of the Network Stars." Strangely enough, it works.

The Gladiators are two rather startling teams of pro athletes: There are three buxom honeys on one, three hulky behemoths on the other, and they mix it up with amateurs from around the country in competition for cash prizes. The hosts are ex-football pros Joe Theismann and Mike Adamle, and the events include such macho/macha contests as jousting with padded sticks and an obstacle course called the Eliminator. Of course, the real competition seems to be between the Gladiators: Which team, the males or the females, has the bigger chests? So far, it's a toss-up.
