The ratings whizzes at A.C. Nielsen say Friday is the night when the fewest TV sets are in use. That should change with this highly stylized and at times comical cop show that upgrades the tired genre of mix-matched cops. In this special premiere episode (the regular series slot is Fridays at 9), a no-nonsense veteran, John Ashton, is paired on the L.A. force with the antithetical Richard Tyson, a neo-hippie (he makes war as well as love but thinks good thoughts). The long-tressed Tyson, wonderful last year in a China Beach guest stint, should do for female hormones what Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas did before him.
