JoMarie Payton-France was funny on the series Perfect Strangers as the wisecracking elevator operator. Reggie Veljohnson was very good in the movie Die Hard as the cop who kept reassuring Bruce Willis. Together, as this series' husband and wife, Payton-France and Veljohnson transcend typical TV sitcoms. The blue-collar Winslow family has a house overflowing with standard types (notably a crabby mother-in-law, Rosetta LeNoire). But the producers and writers do a nice job in this pilot of keeping the screeching and preaching to a bare minimum, something few comedy shows do these days.
