>NIGHT GAMES The Houston Astros toiled in the Astrodome this year with little success, and so did Roy Scheider and Karen Young, the stars of this thriller. Baseball's original techno-park comes off well in the film though, even if it is the place where the original seams of Astroturf were sewn.

IN COUNTRY Director Norman Jewison uses it manipulatively, yet the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., maintains a dignity that tends to keep manipulation in perspective.

BLACK RAIN The architecture of Osaka, Japan, upstages Michael Douglas and Ken Takakura in this misplaced crime film, and it almost seems director Ridley Scott planned it that way.
