When Phylicia Rashad is finished playing Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show, NBC should consider cranking up this nifty vehicle for her as a possible series. False Witness is a hipper, sexier Murder, She Wrote, starring Rashad as an assistant district attorney consumed with discovering who raped and slashed a controversial talk show host (Teri Austin). Robin (Santa Barbara) Mattson also issues some steam as a sexy TV reporter. Rashad's investigator, played by Philip Michael Thomas of Miami Vice fame, is also her duplicitous lover, complicating the case when they clash over suspects. Once you get over the initial shock of seeing Mrs. Huxtable in bed with Tubbs(!), the story, which is based on the Dorothy Uhnak novel of the same title, will keep you guessing till the end.
