Picks and Pans Review: The Show

UPDATED 04/22/1996 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 04/22/1996 at 01:00 AM EDT

Fox (Sundays, 8:30 p.m. ET)

B+

The premise isn't much: A black TV-comedy star named Wilson Lee (Mystro Clark) hires a white guy (Tom Delaney) to head his writing staff. But The Show rises above predictable gags about role (and race) reversal, thanks to solid ensemble casting. The give-and-take of the badinage is very smooth. The one distracting detail is that Delaney seems so much like That Girl's Ted Bessell. Has Don Hollinger become an archetype?
