This made-for-TV movie initially promises to be a low-key romantic comedy about an independent woman (Ellen's Joely Fisher) who agrees to marry a swell guy (Brian Wimmer). Problem is, as Commitment Day nears, the bride balks—even as her stereotypically pushy mother (Anne Meara) overplans the nuptials. But things get all too goofy when Meara permits a wacky cousin (Bud Cort) to videotape the wedding preparations—arguments and all—for his public-access cable show. It's easy to see why this angle would appeal to director Bob Saget, the host of America's Funniest Home Videos, but the candid-camera stuff clutters up a simple concept.
