Picks and Pans Review: Sprung

UPDATED 05/26/1997 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 05/26/1997 at 01:00 AM EDT

Tisha Campbell, Rusty Cundieff

While viewing Sprung, a sweet-natured but perilously slight romantic comedy about the dating lives of four black twentysomethings, you find yourself unconsciously making stirring motions with your fingers as if to hurry up scenes that drag on and on, wander aimlessly, make the same points repeatedly and, well, you get the idea. Or lack of one. Starring, cowritten and directed by Cundieff, whose two earlier films were the lively rap mockumentary Fear of a Black Hat and Tales from the Hood, the strained Sprung has its heart in the right place but could use a strong jolt of electric shock to quicken the pace.
